About the role
This is a senior leadership role for an engineer who still enjoys the detail. You will set the technical direction for Finstack, own architecture and engineering standards across our delivery teams, and act as the senior technical voice with clients and partners. You will shape how we build banking systems today and what we build next, including our applied AI practice.
What you will do
- Set technical direction, reference architectures and engineering standards across all delivery teams.
- Own engineering quality end to end: design reviews, code quality, testing strategy, security, CI/CD and observability.
- Lead solution design for complex banking engagements, from discovery and estimation through to production.
- Guide the applied AI practice: model selection, evaluation on real documents, private deployment and responsible-AI controls.
- Hire, mentor and grow engineers and technical leads; build a culture of ownership and craft.
- Partner with the founders and sales team as the senior technical voice in proposals, workshops and client reviews.
- Evaluate new technologies pragmatically and make clear build, adopt or defer decisions.
What we are looking for
- 12+ years in software engineering, including several years leading teams and owning architecture for enterprise systems.
- Strong background in banking or financial services technology; trade finance, payments or corporate banking strongly preferred.
- Deep hands-on experience with Java enterprise applications, integration architecture and relational databases.
- Practical experience with containers, CI/CD and cloud or on-premise deployment in regulated environments.
- Working knowledge of LLMs, OCR and document AI, and a clear view of their limits in regulated workflows.
- Confident, credible communication with senior client stakeholders and engineering teams alike.
Nice to have
- Experience with SWIFT messaging and ISO 20022.
- Experience growing an engineering organisation in a fast-growing company.
- Exposure to security reviews, audits and vendor due-diligence processes at financial institutions.
